Account-based payment system
Nysse's payment system will be renewed
Nysse is moving to an account-based payment system. In the new system, ticket information and customer groups will be located in the background system instead of on the travel card.
The changeover will be automatic and will not require the customer to take any action. During 2025, all travel cards will become account-based.
The law on transport services obliges public transport authorities to develop account-based payment systems.
What is the reform about?
We will automatically convert all travel cards into account-based cards. The change will be implemented gradually over the year 2025 on the ticketing devices of public transport. You don’t need to change the travel card you are using.
The change will be made in the background system based on the card numbers. You can wait for your card to become account-based, as all travel cards will eventually become account-based.
What are the benefits of change?
Our goal is a more reliable payment system and a better customer experience. The reform will make it easier to buy tickets and travel smoothly.
With an account-based travel card, you can
- use the ticket bought on Nella.fi immediately or later. The two-hour loading delay and the 2-week activation period on public transport are discontinued.
- close the travel card yourself on Nella.fi if you lose the card. You can also open the card yourself, in other words, reactivate it after closing it, if you happen to find it. There is no need to contact customer service anymore.
- easily change the default zones yourself in Nella.fi.
Will the change affect the tickets and charges in use?
The change will not affect channels for ticket sales and purchases. The Nella.fi online service and ticket sales points will continue to operate as normal. Nysse Mobiili, the contactless payment, and the event ticket will also continue to be used together with the travel card.
The value of the travel card has been used to pay for some public sports services, such as swimming pool and gym fees in Tampere, Nokia and Ylöjärvi. In the reform, the use of the travel card as a means of payment for sports services will be discontinued:
- in Tampere on 31 January 2025
- in Nokia and Ylöjärvi on 31 December 2024.

There is no need to change your travel card due to the payment system reform. It is therefore worth keeping the card for possible future travel use, even when the joint use of travel card with sports services ends.
